Evaluating IPv6 on a large-scale network
نویسندگان
چکیده
We evaluate an ideal model and a real large-scale network environment using available end-to-end measurement techniques that focuses on a large-scale IPv6 backbone and made performance comparisons between the current Internet (IPv4) and next generation Internet (IPv6). In this paper, we compiled the performance statistics of each network in terms of TCP and UDP throughput, delay jitters, packet loss rate, and round trip time. Our conclusions show that, in a real large-scale network environment, a minor degradation in the throughput of the TCP, a slightly higher throughput of the UDP, a somewhat emerging frequency of the delay jitter, a lower packet loss rate, and a slightly longer round trip time happens when we compare the IPv6 network to the IPv4 network. 2005 Elsevier B.V. QoS Issues in a Large-scale IPv6 Network
This paper presents our work in the framework of the 6NET project, regarding the design, implementation and testing of a QoS service in a large-scale IPv6 network. The DiffServ mechanism for providing QoS guarantees, is generally preferred over IntServ. However, the current support for QoS mechanisms in IPv6 implementations still lags behind QoS support in IPv4. Furthermore, the new Internet Pr...
متن کاملMeasuring Cellular IPv6 Networks for Web Performance
The growing numbers of mobile users challenge cellular network scalability. The IPv4 address space is not sufficiently large to uniquely identify all active network devices, while at the same time network address translation (NAT) middleboxes used to extend the IPv4 address space introduce performance overheads. Therefore, ISPs have started to adopt IPv6 addressing to provide Internet services ...
متن کاملAccommodating IPv6 Addresses in Security Visualization Tools
Visualization is used by security analysts to help detect patterns and trends in large volumes of network traffic data. With IPv6 slowly being deployed around the world, network intruders are beginning to adapt their tools and techniques to work over IPv6 (vs. IPv4). Many tools for visualizing network activity, while useful for detecting large scale attacks and network behavior anomalies still ...
متن کاملCharacterizing the IPv6 Security Landscape by Large-Scale Measurements
Networks are transitioning from IP version 4 to the new version 6. Fundamental differences in the protocols introduce new security challenges with varying levels of evidence. As enabling IPv6 in an existing network is often already challenging on the functional level, security aspects are overlooked, even those that are emphasized in literature. Reusing existing security solutions for IPv4 migh...
متن کاملSomething from Nothing (There): Collecting Global IPv6 Datasets from DNS
Current large-scale IPv6 studies mostly rely on non-public datasets, as most public datasets are domain specific. For instance, traceroute-based datasets are biased toward network equipment. In this paper, we present a new methodology to collect IPv6 address datasets that does not require access to restricted network vantage points. We collect a new dataset spanning more than 5.8 million IPv6 a...
